Zhou Enlai was born at the end of the 19th century. At that time, China was facing domestic troubles and foreign invasions and suffering from twofold oppression of imperialism and feudalism. In his youth, he was determined to study hard "for the rise of China". When he was young, he went to Japan to seek the truth to save the country and the people. After he returned to China, he actively participated in the May Fourth Movement, continuing to think and find a way out for China. In the early 1920s, he went to Europe on a work-study program. Through repeated comparisons, he established his belief in communism. He participated in the establishment of the European Branch of the CPC and became one of the earliest members of the CPC.
