Precious Blanket

After arriving at Northern Shaanxi after the Long March, Zhu De found that Zhou Enlai, then vice chairman of the central military commission, dealt with a host of affairs every day and often worked far into the night so he gave him this blanket to keep him warm. On April 25, 1937, Zhou Enlai with this blanket went to Xi'an to negotiate with the KMT by truck. The truck jolted so he put the blanket at his back. When they passed Laoshan Mountain in Ganquan county, they were ambushed by the KMT army who shot them from the small hill behind them and the wood on their left. Zhou Enlai jumped out the truck and commanded his army to move and shoot back. He asked his guard not to lose the blanket. After escaping from dangers, Zhou Enlai found that the blankets had already had more than ten "wounds". After arriving at Xi'an, Zhou Enlai asked his staff to find the best shop in the city to darn the blanket.
