Big-character poster

Due to overwork, Zhou Enlai had heart disease. However, Zhou Enlai still worked round the clock. Then, the stall wrote an open letter to Zhou Enlai by posting a big-character poster.

This is a big-character poster which was posted by the stall who worked for him on the door of his office in February 1967. All staff signed the poster. All those who came to the premier's office to attend meetings signed the poster, including Chen Yi, Nie Rongzhen, Li Fuchun, Li Xiannian, doctors and experts. The next day, the premier read the poster carefully and then asked them to take it off. Why? Because he wanted to write down his opinion: take your advice and check my practice. This opinion should be understood as a pun. There is no problem to "take your advice". "Check my practice" means that you shouldn't just persuade me to take a rest but also check my practice. This should be a pun.

He had to deal with a lot of affairs and attend a lot of meetings because he was the premier. He was responsible for whatever important related to the Party, the government and the military in that six or seven years. Could he take a rest? No, he couldn't.
