Enlai's Office

Since he lived and worked in the Xihua Hall in September 1949, Zhou Enlai had always worked in this room. His office was always full of various files and requests and reports from all parts of China. Inside the second drawer on his left hand side are several buttons. If he wanted to ask a secretary to come in for some information, he only needed to press the buttons. His office supplies were also very simple. One pen container and the inbox were made out of the wreckage of the U-2 plane shot down by our army. Another pen container is just an ordinary cup. He had three telephones. The red one was directly connected with the one in Mao Zedong's office. The other two were connected with exterior lines. The masses could call him if they knew the numbers. The key to his safe must only be taken care of by him. When he was away for business trips, he would let Deng Yingchao take care of the key. However, Deng Yingchao never used the key but just took care of it.
